International Journal of BIM and Engineering Science

Aim and Scope

The International Journal of BIM and Engineering Science (IJBES) is a peer-reviewed scholarly journal dedicated to publishing high-quality research in Building Information Modeling (BIM), engineering design, construction engineering, project delivery, infrastructure management, and the lifecycle management of built assets. The journal focuses on the engineering, technical, managerial, and practical dimensions of BIM and construction-related disciplines, with particular attention to how digital engineering methods improve design coordination, construction performance, infrastructure delivery, and facility operation.

IJBES provides an international platform for researchers, engineers, architects, construction professionals, and project managers to present original contributions that advance knowledge and practice in the fields of architecture, engineering, construction, and operation (AECO). The journal welcomes theoretical, empirical, and applied studies that are strongly grounded in the existing literature and that provide clear contributions to engineering science, construction practice, and BIM-enabled project delivery.

The scope of the journal includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:

  • Building Information Modeling (BIM) in architectural, structural, civil, and MEP design

  • BIM-based design coordination, clash detection, model checking, and constructability analysis

  • Architectural engineering, structural engineering, and MEP systems design

  • Design management and interdisciplinary coordination in engineering projects

  • Construction engineering and construction project management

  • Planning, scheduling, cost estimation, quantity surveying, and project control

  • Engineering management of buildings, infrastructure, and major construction projects

  • BIM implementation in construction workflows, site management, and project delivery

  • Operation, maintenance, and management of constructed facilities

  • Facility management, asset management, and lifecycle performance of buildings and infrastructure

  • Infrastructure engineering, including transportation, utilities, public facilities, and urban systems

  • Sustainable construction, green buildings, environmental performance, and resource-efficient design

  • Health, safety, risk management, and quality assurance in construction projects

  • Contracts, procurement, claims, regulations, and legal aspects of BIM and construction projects

  • Economic, business, organizational, environmental, and social factors affecting construction delivery

  • BIM standards, information exchange, interoperability, and collaborative project practices

  • Education, professional practice, and capacity building in BIM and construction engineering

IJBES aims to encourage strong theoretical and empirical debate in BIM, engineering, architecture, construction, and infrastructure research. Submitted papers should be clearly connected to the current body of knowledge and should offer an explicit and original contribution. The journal particularly values studies that provide practical implications for engineering design, construction management, infrastructure delivery, facility operation, or BIM adoption in real-world projects.

The journal welcomes regional and country-specific studies, especially when they address important engineering, construction, or BIM-related challenges. However, authors are encouraged to position such studies within the wider international context by comparing their findings with relevant research, standards, practices, or case studies from other regions whenever possible. This helps ensure that published work contributes not only to local practice but also to broader international understanding in the field.

Overall, IJBES seeks to advance research and professional practice in BIM and engineering science by supporting innovative, rigorous, and practice-oriented studies that improve the planning, design, construction, operation, and management of buildings and infrastructure projects.
