Public facilities rehabilitation projects are the most discussed projects among humanitarian organizations working in Syria in the field of post-war rehabilitation. Since education is a basic right for every child, there is an urgent need for school rehabilitation projects, especially after the massive destruction caused by the war in Syria in the past decade. BIM technology has been used in the past years because it is an integrated and effective process for planning, studying, and implementing projects. However, BIM has not been properly used in the study of post-war rehabilitation projects, especially in developing countries. This research discusses the effectiveness of applying BIM in the rehabilitation projects of public facilities in Syria after the war by increasing the accuracy of quantities estimation for these projects. The main results indicate that the application of BIM in the Al-Ejref school rehabilitation project in the Al Qunaitra governorate represents great potential in increasing the accuracy of quantity estimation, as the traditional methods are limited and have a large margin of error.

Is it possible to achieve optimal lighting in the museum space, which improves its functionality? And how is that done? This article discusses the previous question to achieve specific purposes: highlighting the importance of lighting in public buildings, especially in museums, and emphasizing the importance of using computer technology in the process of studying and proposing solutions that contribute to improving the performance of lighting in the museum (Lattakia museum in Syria as a case study). The study method is concerned with the use of environmental analysis software (ECOTECT Desktop RADIANCE) applied to the case study, which leads us to main results that can be summarized in: emphasizing the role of lighting in the process of optimal performance in the museum in the event that the lighting is natural, and choosing the appropriate lighting element in the event that the lighting is artificial, which later recommends the architects or designer the necessity of conducting research and design studies on natural and industrial lighting in the design stage to upgrade the museum to perform the optimal performance of the View exhibits process.…

This study presents pre-cooling technology using a solar photovoltaic energy system where the increasing in air-conditioning demand during summer results in a rise in the amount of electrical energy consumed from the electric network, as well as an increase in electricity bills. Air conditioners are operated in governmental facilities during official working hours, at the time of the peak demand for electricity, when electric costs are the highest. In order to shift the cooling demand out of the peak period into a lower electric cost period, reducing the energy consumption of the building and the value of the electricity bills, this study was conducted on the technology of pre-cooling using solar photovoltaic energy system. The Engineers Association Branch in Latakia was conducted as a case study. The results showed that applying the Photovoltaic (PV) pre-cooling system led to a significant decrease in the cooling demand during thek hours, and reduces the daily consumption of the electric power from the electric system, as the demand was decreased from 85 kWh to 21,250 kWh. Besides, the value of the electricity bills was decreased by 83%. Pre-cooling lowered the PV system capacity that was needed to operate the building's air conditioning equipment by 50%. A reduction of 42.5 kg of CO2 emissions per day could be achieved using PV-pre-cooling system.

Highways perform a seminal role in the economic development for any country. The road network is a crucial infrastructure that needs to be developed and kept in a function able condition; so that, its benefits can be achieved. For ages, pavements were kept but not administered. The expertise of the pavement engineer determined the choice of Maintenance and Repair (M&R) methods regardless of the expense and quality of the life cycle as opposed to other pavement segments in the map of the roads` network. Nowadays, in the light of economic environment, since the pavement infrastructure has worn out, a more organized and disciplined way to specify M&R needs and priorities seems a must. To keep the pavements well, the factors affecting pavement performance need to be identified. Examples of such factors are climate, drainage, material properties, construction quality and traffic loads. Due to exposure to traffic and environmental factors distresses show up with time throughout the service life of the pavement. Thus, pavement performance is negatively affected and if not treated at the right time, the service life will be shorter along with inferior ride quality. In order to evaluate pavement condition and thus its performance, a reliable pavement condition index is needed. This index is based upon pavement condition surveys which can be conducted either manual (visual inspection) or automated (by a van). If the quality of the pavement is assessed and the distresses are identified, there are currently several indices available for evaluating pavement performance. This paper presents a comparative study between the pavement condition indices to determine the most suitable method for implementation in roads.

Frequent and severe traffic accidents have become a major concern because they hinder the sustainable development of society. Elements of roadway design play an important role in determining the risk of traffic accidents. Where, the geometry of the road has an effect on both the severity and frequency of road accidents. Road safety is affected by a variety of factors related to the behavior of drivers and the quality of the infrastructure. Some solutions need to be provided in order to reduce the number of traffic accidents, and safety performance functions (SPFs) are essential to the implementation of science-based road safety management. This is because it is preferable to provide preventative protection than to deal with the after-effects of an accident. The ability to address this issue is also dependent on having information about the safety conditions of the road network as well as the amount of finances that are available for the implementation of new road safety initiatives. It also requires the prioritization of the various interventions that may generate benefits, increasing safety, while ensuring that reasonable steps are taken to remedy the deficiencies detected within a reasonable timeframe. Roadside accidents are often considered to be among the "most merciless" types of accidents. It is possible to significantly lessen the severity of collisions by designing roadsides to be more "forgiving". A roadside design that is more forgiving has a limited effect on lowering the overall number of accidents, but it has a significant impact on reducing the severity of collisions, which in turn reduces the number of fatal and injury accidents.
